Which Wireless N450 Router Provides You Best Values

Mostly the nature behavior of people who are planning to purchase an electronic product is to collect as much as information about the product to purchase including reading the reviews from other user's opinions and finding features comparison with other products. This would also be applied to selecting the best wireless router with N450 technology, the best router in providing the best values for your need. The best router that meets your need might not be the best router to meet other people's need. If you are targeting the best router in all aspects, that will not be possible because you are shooting a moving target. Why? Each year or less each manufacturer introduces new router with better performance using better technologies.

Let's have a closer look at three popular wireless routers which use N450 wireless technology: the D-Link Dir665, Buffalo Wzr-Hp-g450h and Trendnet Tew-691. At least there are two features that make each of the router different, the wireless technology and the USB port.

The Wireless Technology

The D-Link Dir-665 is a dual-band wireless router that supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. Unfortunately this is not a simultaneous dual-band technology which supports both bands concurrently, but it is selectable dual band technology. Basically selectable dual band is a single band router because it operates in either 2.4GHz or 5GHz band at a time. Dir-665 is compliant with 802.11a/g/n; it cannot support the wireless b devices anymore.

Both Wzr-Hp-G450h and Tew-691 are compliant with 802.11b/g/n standards which operate in single 2.4GHz band. Both routers don not support 5GHz band, the band with less interference compared with 2.4GHz band. You can assure smooth streaming high definition video and jitter-free gaming experiences when both end of router and the client use the same 5GHz band in addition of high speed N450 wireless technology.

All the three routers include 3 external antennas using 3x3 MIMO antenna technology with three spatial data streaming to deliver high speed up to 450Mbps. However, all the three routers have different antenna gain. Dir-665 is designed with standard 2dBi Omni-directional gain antenna, Wzr-Hp-G450h is designed with 5dBi high gain antennas, and Tew-691 is designed with 3dBi gain fixed dipole antennas. For larger home, router with 5dBi high gain antennas would be appropriate.

USB Port

All the three routers are designed for high speed wireless connection which are ideal for streaming HD media and fast responsive online gaming experiences. Being able to share the storage across the network is beneficial particularly to support your home theater environment. You can stream multimedia files stored in the attached storage to the router to the Blu-ray player or Xbox console. Both Dir-665 and Tew-691 do not support USB port for share storage but Wzr-Hp-G450h does. Wzr-Hp-G450h with USB port supports built-in FTP server to let you access the files across the network. And the good thing is that if you attach Buffalo Link-Station or Terra-Station NAS, you can access your files across the internet using free Web-access services.

It looks like that the Wzr-Hp-G450h is a better choice among the three routers. Unfortunately if you need to share the printer across the network, none of those routers can support share printer. It means you have to purchase a wireless print server or share the printer in a traditional way by connecting the printer to the computer and configure it for sharing. So if the requirement of sharing the storage and the printer concurrently exists, it's better you find the wireless router which supports two USB ports.
